Dying Happy!!!
Oh My God!!! Wow...okay, two days after the fact, but with limited internet access at the moment, I believe I am allowed two days...Anyway...WEEZER is amazing!!! I am so on a high right now. Okay, back up. Monday, July 4, 2005, Aaron and I traveled to Kansas City to see Embrace, Story of the Year, Straylight Run, Cake, and WEEZER. I have waited 10+ years to see Weezer in concert. They were amazing! I can't even begin to describe how incredible they are live. Granted I think Rivers was a little out of it, but to each his own...I mean, it really didn't affect the performance. If anything, it may have made it better. Okay, before I get to the performance, let me tell you about our trip.
Day 1. I got packed on Monday, I go to my car...it won't start. My car is what we will be driving on our wonderful road trip to the concert of a lifetime. I ask my wonderful roomie if she has jumper cables...she doesn't but she drives me to auto zone to buy some. I buy some for $8. Yay for me! So, I start my car...then realize I need gas. I try to get gas, but I need a jump again---thank you to the wonderful girl at 7-11! I get on my way, go get Aaron and then we take off. We are about to pull out on Main and I ask, "did you get the tickets?" To which Aaron laughs hysterically and says, "no." It was great. I laughed about that one during the duration of the trip. Aaron's usually the "together one." So we are on our way and definitely need gas in the city. Of course, we get gas and my car won't start again. So I went inside and the guy behind the counter looks at us and (b/c we are 2 girls) says, "you're lost aren't you?" To which I reply, "NO. My car won't start could you give us a jump?" He obliges and then I was so happy b/c he didn't know how to use cables and I did! Smug little bastard! ha ha! So we are merrily on our way and of course b/c we are going to KS, nothing remotely interesting happens until we need gas again---and of course another jump. Long story short, this is pretty much how the first day went.
We get to Bonner Springs, which is where the concert is and we don't have a place to stay. So we pretty much drove around Kansas City for abt 3 hours. It was great. I don't think Aaron enjoyed it as much as I did, but it could have been b/c she was driving. :( We finally arrive in Olathe (pronounce Oh-lay-thuh---yeah, who knew?) and find a place to stay---yay for Sleep Inn!. They were wonderful. We are starving by this point and Aaron is in need of chips and salsa. We decide on Chili's. The only problem is that everyone in Olathe is in town to see the fire works--right, the 4th of July! So traffic is horrendous. Is that a word? Anyway, we don't care about the fireworks, only our food and then going to bed. Which is exactly what we did, we ate, surfed the net, and slept. It was great. The only problem was that Chili's didn't have chips and salsa. :( Poor Aaron.
Day 2. We woke up pretty early and got ready. I decided that I better get my car looked at since it wouldn't start again. We went to Wal-Mart (yay for wal-mart---as much as I hate saying that, yeah). My battery was shot. Maybe b/c I had my some body work done on my car last week, I dunno. Anyway, the Wal-Mart guy was nice and pretty cool about everything. Then he found out we were from OK and told us he was a big Toby Keith fan! Wow, what a way to end a conversation. It was really funny though b/c he figured out that we weren't fans and that it was b/c of political reasons. Yeah, we are liberal and he was like, "yeah, I'm a republican." Funny. Anyway...new battery, the mall (Aaron did some shopping), and then lunch. Chili's had chips and salsa this time. Mmmm...the guy even hooked us up for the way home. He brought us a bag of chips and to go salsa. nice!
Off to the concert! We turned down the road that the amphitheater was on. There were cars lined up all the way down the street. so we decided to go around that lane and were one of the first cars in line. Sweet! Now to the important stuff. There were 8 bands in the lineup. Three were local bands, two of which were great---Flee the Scene and Elevator Division. Then Embrace performed. I love this band! I saw them back in April with Snow Patrol. They are so good! And they have 'cute British accents.' Aaron fell in love...so funny. :) Story of the Year was great. I remembered that they put on a great show from the Linkin Park concert. They didn't disappoint. Straylight Run was so good! Omigosh! I was really impressed. I recommend them to all. CAKE! wow. I love Cake! They are so amazing live! I swear, I would do anything to see them again. Unfortunately, the may not happen. They just got out from under their record company's grip. Damn the man! They seemed pretty happy about it though. They performed "the distance" Sooooo good! I love the lead singer, John McCrea. so cool! But the best part of the night was Weezer! Oh wow! The started off with "Say it Ain't So"---my alltime favorite song by them. I was in heaven! They also did El Scorcho, Buddy Holly, The Sweater Song, many from Make Believe, Hash Pipe, In the Garage, omigosh! Rivers is so incredible. Pat was awesome! Brian remains just cool. And Scott was great. I am more in love with this band now than I was before---if that's even possible.
I had such a great time. I can seriously die happy now! Weezer is the best band ever! I can't even begin to describe how much seeing them in concert meant to me.
Aaron is a great friend to trek all the way to KS and miss class and put up w/ all the crap that happened along the way. She's just cool. Maybe sometime in the near future I can gather my thoughts and seriously put into words how incredible the concert was. I will definitely never forget it! I would do it again in a heartbeat. But...'til next time!
